10/30/08 Meeting Summary

At last night's meeting, there was a motion for new elections for all elected officials.  The motion passed and we will have new elections in the next few weeks.

A By-Law committed has been established.

An outside email list is being established. Complete minutes from last night's meeting will be available via email.  If you have not submitted your home email address yet, please email the webpage.

Thank you very much for everyone that was able to make it to the meeting and a very special thank you to everyone that has stepped up and agreed to serve on the nomination committee and the By-Law committee.

Everyone is STRONGLY encouraged to get involved.
This is YOUR union, take an active role!  If you have never run for any office, please seriously consider it.  There will also be a need for stewards (training will be provided) and future committee members.

Want to Earn Comp Time?
Give Blood!

Blood donations made solely to organizations sponsored by the Municipal Employer shall be reciprocated by granting of four (4) compensatory time-off, which may be taken by the employee upon the approval of the employee’s supervisor and subject to the operating needs of the department.  The supervisor may request verification prior to granting release time.

Boston Medical Center, Mass General Hospital and Children's Hospital have been approved as sponsored organizations.

Qualified donors are able to donate blood every eight weeks.  That means you can give blood every other month, or six times a year.  Six donations times four comp hours equals twenty four hours of comp!  That’s not too bad.  Some 298 members are already taking advantage of this program.  They donate blood during their lunch hour.

This is excellent opportunity for Local 298 members to give back to the community and help address the severe blood shortage.  It is also an excellent opportunity to take advantage of one of the more under utilized benefits.

The Personnel Dept has requested that we use a pre-approved form, which will be posted shortly.  If you need the form now, please contact Kevin Broderick or Charlie Gillen.

Results of Delegate Nomination Meeting

Local 298 held a general membership meeting in order to decide whether or not to send delegate(s) or alternate delegate(s) to the NAGE National Convention. This convention is being held to elect 30 members to the National Executive Board.

The meeting was held on May 24, 2006 (Time 7:00 PM) at NAGE headquarters, 159 Burgin Parkway, Quincy, MA. The only order of business for this meeting was a voice vote by the membership in attendance to decide if we will send delegates to the convention (Quorum not required). If the membership in attendance votes to send delegates than nominations will be taken.

During the meeting, there were no nominations received, therefore Local 298 will not be sending a delegate to the national convention which will be held from September 11 through 14 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
